What is a dry herb vaporizer?

A dry herb vaporizer heats ground plant material in a chamber or oven to a set temperature, below the point where it burns, so it releases vapor instead of smoke. Most portable models run on a rechargeable battery and let you choose a temperature or a preset heat level.

Conduction, convection or hybrid: what is the difference?

Conduction heats the herb through direct contact with a hot chamber wall. Convection passes heated air through the herb. Hybrid vaporizers use both. Among the vaporizers listed here, the PAX Mini 2 uses conduction, the Yocan Hit 2 has a ceramic convection oven, and the Storz & Bickel Mighty+ and Veazy, PAX Flow, G Pen Dash+ and Pulsar APX Pro use hybrid heating.

Dry herb vaporizer or concentrate vaporizer?

Dry herb vaporizers are made for ground flower. Concentrate vaporizers, including e-rigs and nectar-collector style pens, heat wax, shatter and other extracts in a quartz or ceramic chamber or atomizer. Check the type on each product page before you buy, because most devices are made for one or the other.

What specs should you compare on a vaporizer?

Battery capacity, heat-up time, chamber material and how you set the temperature differ most between models. Among the vaporizers listed here, batteries range from 500mAh on the Lookah Whale to a removable 5500mAh cell on the Arizer Air MAX. Heat-up times run from about 10 to 20 seconds on the Yocan Orbit, G Pen Dash+ and Puffco Pivot to about 45 seconds on the Storz & Bickel Veazy and about 60 seconds on the Mighty+. Chambers include titanium (G Pen Dash+), ceramic (Puffco Pivot, Yocan Vane 2) and quartz (Yocan Orbit). Some models take an exact temperature, such as the Arizer Air MAX at 122°F to 428°F, while others use a few preset heat levels, such as the four on the PAX Mini 2. Most of them charge over USB-C.
